Number of Days:  12 month

Compensation:  Support Salary Schedule plus benefits as negotiated

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

 

Position Summary:  To maintain the facilities, school plant and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.   

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Opens, secures and locks the buildings as necessary.
  2. Inspects building and grounds for cleanliness, safety, and health hazards.
  3. Strives to promote the safety, health, and comfort of the student and employees.
  4. Maintain cleaning equipment and practices proper usage.
  5. Cleans assigned areas daily and as necessary.
  6. Cleans restrooms daily and as necessary.
  7. Makes minor repairs to facilities as directed.
  8. Replaces light bulbs as necessary.
  9. Performs related custodial duties as assigned.
  10. Cleans walls, driveways, parking areas and steps as needed.
  11. Keeps all areas clean and in and out of building.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned by the building principal, custodian supervisor, and the Director of Support Services.
  13. Maintains and adheres to all safety and code requirements of the Federal, State, local and Board of Education guidelines.  

  14. Will follow all District policies and procedures for Support Employees.

  15. Makes independent, "on the spot", "safe to operate" decisions concerning safety of students, staff, and patrons when necessary.

  16. Performs preventative maintenance.
  17. Maintains and operates various equipment, tools, and materials in a safe manner and in good working condition.
  18. Operates and maintains equipment safely.
  19. Accurately orders and accounts for material and labor relative to assignments including maintaining an inventory and itemized costs on each assignment.  
  20. Makes recommendations relating to the purchase of supplies and equipment and maintains the inventory of District owned and assigned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials and supplies
  21. Communicates effectively.
  22. Works well with both supervisors and other members of the team.
  23. Maintains consistent and punctual attendance.
  24. Performs other duties assigned by supervisor or administrator.

 

Education and/or Experience:

Minimum of three (3) years experience required in relevent experience or training.  High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

 

  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • Language Skills:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before small groups of employees or organizations.  

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education polices.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk; use hands and finger to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms such as to operate vibrating machinery.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee continuously use hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders.  The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and truck more than the average person while performing the duties of the job.  Duties will include outside work.  

 

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move items weighing up to 90 pounds.  The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as, but not limited to, tables, scaffolds, and cabinets.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the abililty to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work regularly outdoors.  The employee will work near or with moving mechancial equipment.  The employee may work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays.  The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.  

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
